SEPTEMBER 2026

MANHATTAN MONTHLY TAKE

We agree with our colleague Leonard Steinberg that many of the summer’s headlines focused on the poorly executed rollout of the pied-à-terre tax which has drawn criticism from both sides, particularly over privacy concerns surrounding the public release of nearly one million homeowner names and addresses.

However, there are other important headlines as the Fall market approaches, such as the strength of the trophy market! As per the Olshan Report, 218 Manhattan properties priced at $10 million+ have gone into contract so far this year, compared with 202 during the same period last year. An increase of 16 deals, or about 7.9%, year-over-year.

New York’s economic fundamentals also remain strong. The city is leading the U.S. and Canada in tech job creation, high-paying industries continue to diversify, and office leasing is robust. Despite political uncertainty, New York remains a global magnet for talent, capital and opportunity—with a resilience that transcends any one administration.

Looking forward to seeing what September brings!

Definitely stop for a glass (or 2) of wine next door before or after dinner at the new Shmone wine bar that just opened in February.

Motek: Is quickly becoming the place to be for a super fun, lively, and delicious Israeli meal. 3 locations in Flatiron, the West Village, and the newly added Midtown West are a testament to its popularity. Our favorite dishes are the cauliflower with harissa honey, the crispy eggplant, and the baked lemon branzino.
